WHY FAMILY SERVICES UNITED?
The Story Behind Our Name
We set out to build an organization that feels like a family—where individuals are supported, understood, and made to feel at home. Our name reflects the unifying approach we take in bringing together comprehensive services and resources to support individuals with I/DD and their families.
Building a Legacy of Compassion

Family Services United was founded in 2017, launching with House One and the introduction of comprehensive residential services for adults with I/DD.

FSU expanded with Houses Two and Three and introduced Respite Care, Companion Services, and Homemaker/Chore Services to better support residents and families.

House Four opened, further extending FSU’s capacity to offer safe and nurturing care environments to meet growing demand.

Despite the pandemic, FSU continued its mission by opening House Five, ensuring stability and care during a difficult time for families.

FSU enhanced its medical offerings by adding a Registered Nurse and Private Duty Nursing services, providing personalized medical care to residents.

FSU opened House Six and expanded its services to Penn Hills, reaching more individuals in need of community-based care.

Houses Seven through Ten opened, along with an Adult Training Facility, providing vocational and life skills training for greater independence.

FSU expanded further by opening Houses Eleven to Thirteen, offering even more residents a supportive, family-like environment.

In 2025, FSU will launch the Clairton Project, a dedicated facility for veterans offering comprehensive, specialized care to honor their service.
